A special place for senior dogs
*** Shady Pines Dog Retreat will officially open on September 2nd and we are accepting reservations now ***
Shady Pines is a quiet, relaxing and safe home away from home tailored to the particular needs of older dogs.
I know firsthand the stress of leaving your elderly dog in an environment that may not be well suited for them. Physical limitations, bathroom needs, vision and hearing loss, specific food and medication needs, along with a desire for a calm and quiet environment make sending your senior to a regular boarding kennel a challenge. I know I would not be comfortable sending my own elderly dogs (10,13, 14, and 16 years old) there at this stage in their lives. I can’t wait to welcome your special senior into my home and offer you the piece of mind that home-based care can provide.
What We Offer
Shady Pines is located on a very quiet street with no thru-traffic in Vallejo, California - about 30 miles outside of San Francisco. Our home is 100% level with no stairs inside or out, fully climate controlled and securely gated around the entire property. The 360 degree fencing allows the doors to be open, giving freedom to move in and out for bathroom breaks, sunbathing, and cooling off as needed.
Our boarding service is small scale and boutique. We keep the numbers low to allow as much individualized attention as possible, as well as making sure the energy in the house is mellow. Many of our seniors are only interested in napping, low-key dog socializing, and human companionship. Other older pups who still have energy and ability can go for gentle neighborhood walks, explore the marina, sniff around parks on Mare Island or the beaches in nearby Benicia.
Through my shelter work as well as assisting at a weekly vet clinic at a local daycare, I’ve acquired a vast array of hands on experience with every type of medication (from pills, to IV fluids to injections), CPR, wound care and general wellness assessment. We are also well versed in every type of food, as well as dealing with picky eaters.
